In area baseball action this past weekend, Coal City knocked off Dwight and in softball the Lady Trojans defeated the Coalers.
Coal City 6,
The Coalers won their sixth straight game on Friday, knocking off the Trojans by a 6-4 score.
Austin McLuckie was the winning pitcher for Coal City. He allowed six hits and walked none in the victory. McLuckie also had two singles, a double and two RBI at the plate.
Additionally, Dylan Hakey had two hits and two RBI in the win and Moose Manietta also had two hits. Dan Darling also executed a successful suicide squeeze.
Ben Trainor was the winning pitcher. He fanned 12 and walked just two.
Ryan Kodat and Alex Frazier had three hits each and Troy Hogan, Jake Thomas and Winston Watkins had two hits each.
Trevor Lines was 2 for 2 with three runs scored while Kyle Hill and John Struck each added two hits.
Eric Robinson threw three innings of shutout bacll for Morris and both Matt Bernickus and Lines threw one inning each for the Redskins.
Coal City 1
Dwight took advantage of two unearned runs in getting the win.
Morgan Youskevitch was the tough-luck loser for the Coalers. She allowed five hits while striking out six.
Coal City scored its lone run in the seventh when Molly Manietta walked, Gabby Bonic singled and Hannah Boresi had a sacrifice fly.
Erin Gaston was the winning pitcher. She allowed two hits while striking out 13.
Claire Elsey had two hits for Dwight and Maddy Rodosky had a double.
Nicole Pihl was the winning pitcher for the Lady Irish, striking out eight and allowing two hits.
Lauren Bashar and Morgan Luckey had the hits for the Comets.
At the plate for Seneca, Pihl, Allison Coughlin, Coley Baker, Madi Shanks, Lexi Trompeter and Jaclyn Andreatta had hits.
Michalene Collier was the losing pitcher.
Iroquois West 6
Emily Foley was the winning pitcher on Friday. She had allowed 10 hits and a walk while striking out six. Katie Gretz recorded the save, pitching the final inning.
At the plate, GSW had seven hits. Abby Horrie had two hits and two RBI, Gretz had two hits, a run scored and two RBI, Paige Lardi had a hit, two runs scored and two RBI, Lexi Posing had a hit and an RBI and Becca Bernardy had a double.
"Our pitchers both pitched well tonight," GSW coach Michelle Lardi said. "We played solid defense against a good-hitting team. We got runners in scoring position nearly every inning."
Gretz was the winning pitcher. She fanned 12 while allowing nine hits and three walks.
At the plate, Paige Lardi had a pair of doubles and three RBI, Horrie had two hits and two runs scored, Foley had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored, Becca Bernardy had a hit, run scored and an RBI and Sophie Barna had a double.
"We struggled to get going on offense in the beginning, but during the fourth inning out bats got hot," GSW coach Michelle Lardi said.
Ridgeview 1, 5 innings
Sarah Butterfield was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and an unearned run. She also had three hits at the plate.
Offensively, Jamie Stanton had two hits and Claire Elsey two hits but Alyssa Brownlee topped them all by going 4 for 4 at the plate.
