Midewin’s May schedule released
Horseback event kicks off free series on May 5
WILMINGTON — Midewin Natural Tallgrass Prairie has released its schedule of programs and events for May. All are free of charge.
Programs begin and end at the Midewin Welcome Center, located two miles North of Wilmington at 30239 S. State Route 53, unless otherwise noted.
Reservations are recommended and can be made either via email at Midewin_RSVP@fs.fed.us or by calling (815) 423-6370. Walk-ins are welcome, however room can not be guaranteed without a reservation.
“Midewin by Horseback/South Side” will be held at 10 a.m. on May 5. Participants will sse and learn about Midewin, its history and management, from the back of your horse. Equestrian volunteers will lead an interpretive ride on one of our newer multi-use trails. Participants must bring their own horses. This event will meet at South Arsenal and Chicago Roads.
Two events will be held May 26. “WOW! Wonders of Water Journey for Brownies” will begin at 10 a.m. Girls will take a journey to love water, save water and share water at Midewin and in their local community.
“Lincoln’s Boys in Blue” also begins at 10 a.m. and is a special Memorial Day Weekend tour as part of Midewin’s recognition of the 151st anniversary of the start of the Civil War.
