Elise Marie Hammerstein

COAL CITY, Ill. — Ms. Elise Marie “Lisey-Poo” Hammerstein, 33, passed away suddenly Saturday, April 28, 2012, at her residence as the result of complications arising from a lifelong battle with severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 West U.S. 6, at Deerpath Dr., Morris, with Michael Lawless officiating. As it was Elise’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following funeral services.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 4, and again Saturday morning, May 5, from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.

Born in Gibson City, Ill., she lived most of her life in Morris, Ill., but was a resident of Coal City for the past seven years. A graduate of Morris Community High School with the Class of 1997, she attended Joliet Junior College.

A long-time home health care provider, Elise was also a long-time member of the Coal City Area Club, where she spent many of her summers.

Surviving are her daughter, Taylor Lynn Rose Peterson, of Coal City; her fiance, Eric Peterson of Coal City, whom she was to marry Sept. 29, 2012; her father, Robert W. Hammerstein of Morris; her mother, Donna (nee Lawless) (Richard) Davis of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandmother, Bonnie (Chuck) Davy of Morris; two sisters, Casey (Rick Smith) Hammerstein of Morris and Nicole Hammerstein of Charlotte, N.C.; and one brother, Robert J. Hammerstein of Charlotte, N.C. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Richard T. (Helen) Lawless; her maternal grandmother, Jacquelyn “Grammy” Lawless; her paternal grandfather, Charles A. Hammerstein; and her godchild, Ashley Lynn Walls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to defray final expenses to her family would be appreciated.
