Man standing near parked car fatally struck by truck on I-55
(MCT) — A 40-year-old man standing by his car parked along I-55 near Plainfield was struck and killed by a semitrailer-tractor truck late Thursday morning.
The semi was southbound near U.S. 30 at mile marker 256 when it hit a man who was standing alongside his car parked on the right shoulder, according to a news release from Illinois State Police Joliet District Trooper DeAnn Falat. The victim was standing in the right lane of traffic outside the parked car when it happened and was the only person in the vehicle.
Gregory A. Noe of Joliet was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and was later pronounced dead, according to a statment from state police.
The wreck, which occurred at 11:43 a.m., was not a hit-and-run, and a state police sergeant said Thursday night that the truck driver cooperated with the investigation and had not been cited or charged.
Police were still trying to determine exactly why Noe was standing in the lane of traffic and what circumstances led to him being struck and killed.
The news release said the 2000 Volvo semitrailer-tractor truck was being driven by Albert Vera, 57, of Carpentersville for the Fast Tiger Inc. company.
