In area baseball action this past weekend, Morris defeated Rochelle 7-5 on Friday and lost to Sandwich 5-2 on Saturday.

The Redskins finished off the Northern Illinois Big 12 East sweep of the Hubs with the win on Friday.
Jake Olson was the winning pitcher for Morris. He went all seven innings allowing five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four.
At the plate, Kevin Wendling was 2 for 2 with two runs scored, Greg Struck was had an RBI single, Jake Capko had a two-RBI single and both Grant Davis and Kenny Milosovic had singles.
"Oly was able to work out of some jams and keep us in a position to win the game," Morris coach Todd Kein said. "We pushed across runs late when we needed to, so it was a nice way to complete the sweep."

Morris lost the non-conference game on Saturday.
Drew Aldrich was the tough-luck losing pitcher. We went all six innings allowing no earned runs while allowing four hits and walking one. He fanned four.
At the plate, Milosovic had a double and two RBI, Preston Miracle had a double and Grant Davis and Ryan Borgstrom had singles.
"Today was just a poorly played game by us, both offensively and defensively," Kein said. "Drew Aldrich worked his butt off on the mound and got zero support. He deserved better."

Freshman Joey Quinn got the win to make his varsity pitching debut on Saturday. He got the win over six innings of work. He allowed three runs on six hits and six walks while striking out three. He also had two hits and two RBI at the plate.
Dominic Durando also had two hits and two RBI at the plate and Cody Onsen and Austin McLuckie had a hit and an RBI each.

Wilmington 3
Alex Wills was the winning pitcher for Coal City in the other game on Saturday. He allowed two hits and walked three while striking out seven.
Dan Darling, Brandon Wills and Durando also had a hit each and a run scored for the Coalers.

On Friday, Coal City defeated the Wildcats behind the pitching of Nate Chapman. He went all seven innings allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks. Chapman struck out three.
At the plate with a hit and two runs scored each were Danny Darling, Onsen, Nate Natyshok and Durando had two RBI and a run scored.
"We are really starting to play well right now. We made a few adjustments on defense and it has helped turn things around," Coal City coach Jerry McDowell said. "We are playing with a lot more confidence."

Brandon Riggi was the winning pitcher. He went all five innings in the non-conference game allowing a walk and a hit while striking out seven.
Offensively for the Panthers, Jeremy Kunz and Cody Harvey were each 2 for 3. Kuntz had a run scored and three RBI while Harvey scored two runs.
"Brandon pitched an excellent game today. He threw strikes and hit his spots," GSW coach Jon Posing said. "Offensively we made the most of six hits. We were patient at the plate and it really paid off."
Riggi had a hit, an RBI and three runs scored and Chris Lardi had a double and two RBI.

On Friday the Trojans lost a tough I-8 game to the Sentinels.
Ben Trainor was the losing pitcher, though he also had three hits and two RBI. Jake Thomas had three hits and an RBI and Jake Wardell had two hits and an RBI.

Both games went five innings.
In the first game Mark Harkey and Trevor Maly combined on the pitching victory for the Indians in the Southwest Prairie Conference win.
At the plate, Dominick Matrisclano had a double and a single and two RBI, Jesse Troyner had a double, single and two RBI and Neal Tyrell had two singles and an RBI.
In the second game, Todd Hoffart was the winning pitcher.
Anthony Corrado had a triple and two singles for the Indians, to go along with three RBI while Dakota Dunstan had two singles and one RBI.
SOFTBALL
Seneca 8,
Herscher 0
On Friday, Seneca got the win against the Tigers.
Miranda Hougas had a 3 for 4 contest with two runs scored and two RBI while Nicole Pihl was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBI. Sarah Radtke homered. Coley Baker had a hit and two RBI.
Pihl was the winning pitcher. She allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five.
"In the sixth inning, we started to pound the ball," Seneca coach Dan Stecken said. "It was great to see our lineup click in the final two innings. We played solid, fundamental defense in the game. If we get our bats going earlier in the game, we are going to be a tough team to beat moving forward."

Somonauk 4
Pihl homered while going 2 for 4 at the plate with five RBI in the non-conference win on Saturday. Coley Baker doubled and Jaclyn Andreatta tripled against the Bobcats.
Madi Shanks was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
"Every girl in a Seneca uniform contributed to a total team win," Stecken said. "We had some great base running from Miranda, Madi and Chelsie (McCormick), stealing nine bases."

Maddy Bunton was 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored while Molly Manietta was 2 for 3 with three RBI. Madison Giordano, Allie Lardi and Hannah Boresi had one RBI each.
Morgan Youskevitch was the winning pitcher. She struck out three.

Dalas Sigmund was the winning pitcher in the first game and Megan Melone in the second.
Offensively, Lauren Tollefson was 7 for 8 on the day with seven runs scored and four RBI. Melissa Schmidt was 5 for 7 with three runs and four RBI, Taylor Rehberg was 5 for 8 with six runs scored and three RBI and Caroline Erickson was 4 for 8 with six runs scored and two RBI.

Brittany Mikel and Morgan Luckey had one hit each in the loss.

Erin Gaston was the winning pitcher allowing six hits and no walks while striking out 10.
