Baseball/softball roundup: Morris baseball beats Rochelle, loses to Sandwich

In area baseball action this past weekend, Morris defeated Rochelle 7-5 on Friday and lost to Sandwich 5-2 on Saturday.

Morris 7,

The Redskins finished off the Northern Illinois Big 12 East sweep of the Hubs with the win on Friday.

Jake Olson was the winning pitcher for Morris. He went all seven innings allowing five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out four.

At the plate, Kevin Wendling was 2 for 2 with two runs scored, Greg Struck was had an RBI single, Jake Capko had a two-RBI single and both Grant Davis and Kenny Milosovic had singles.

"Oly was able to work out of some jams and keep us in a position to win the game," Morris coach Todd Kein said. "We pushed across runs late when we needed to, so it was a nice way to complete the sweep."


Sandwich 5,

Morris lost the non-conference game on Saturday.

Drew Aldrich was the tough-luck losing pitcher. We went all six innings allowing no earned runs while allowing four hits and walking one. He fanned four.

At the plate, Milosovic had a double and two RBI, Preston Miracle had a double and Grant Davis and Ryan Borgstrom had singles.

"Today was just a poorly played game by us, both offensively and defensively," Kein said. "Drew Aldrich worked his butt off on the mound and got zero support. He deserved better."


Coal City 9,

Fieldcrest 4

Freshman Joey Quinn got the win to make his varsity pitching debut on Saturday. He got the win over six innings of work. He allowed three runs on six hits and six walks while striking out three. He also had two hits and two RBI at the plate.

Dominic Durando also had two hits and two RBI at the plate and Cody Onsen and Austin McLuckie had a hit and an RBI each.


Coal City 6,

Wilmington 3

Alex Wills was the winning pitcher for Coal City in the other game on Saturday. He allowed two hits and walked three while striking out seven.

Dan Darling, Brandon Wills and Durando also had a hit each and a run scored for the Coalers.
