CHANNAHON — If all goes as planned, rural Channahon could have a new electricity converter station up and running in late 2016. That’s if Clean Line Energy Partners’ Rock Island project goes through.

Doug Jones, a representative of the company headquartered in Houston, told Channahon village trustees Monday evening why they should support the effort and issue a letter of recommendation for the project. What the company has in mind, Jones said, is to use wind energy from farms in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota, which he said are some of the windiest states in the nation, and transport it to this area.

Jones said he would like to build the converter station on an 85-acre piece of land owned by Five Star off Bungalow Road, near the business Utility Concrete, while using the old Collins Station site in rural Morris as the substation.
