Police: Intoxicated driver strikes parked vehicle, utility pole

Morris police arrested a man Friday for striking a parked vehicle and a utility pole while driving under the influence of alcohol.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., according to Morris Police Department records, Matthew P. Bell, 28, 1510 Jo-Lin Drive, was reportedly traveling north in the 1000 block of Lisbon Street in a 2011 Ford Fusion when he struck the passenger side of a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle parked along the street.

According to the report, Bell turned around and traveled south. A witness saw Bell traveling up on the curb and hitting numerous objects in the area. The responding police officer observed front end damage to his vehicle, and also watched him travel onto Northern Avenue, where he traveled off the roadway onto the shoulder and eventually struck a utility pole.
