U.S. 6 construction prompts police to caution drivers

With construction set to start Monday, May 14, on portions of U.S. 6, Morris Police Department officials are encouraging motorists to be alert and drive safely.

Chief Brent Dite said work is set to take place in two separate areas on U.S. 6 — one zone will be about seven miles east of Illinois 47, and a second will be set up between Edgewater Drive and Lakewood Drive. Eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic will be affected during the projects.

Dite said the police department will increase its presence in both areas to enforce traffic violations. Additionally, Dite said motorists should be aware that there may be lane closures or reduced speed limits in the zones.
