Getting to Work

Construction begins Tuesday on portions of U.S. 6

Construction will begin Tuesday, May 15, 2012, weather permitting, on U.S. 6 in Morris, from just west of Illinois 47 to Walker's Corner, according to a press release issued by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

A $1,695,980.89 contract for the project was awarded to "D" Construction, Inc. of Coal City. The project consists of removal of the existing asphalt surface, resurfacing, installation of traffic detector loops at signalized intersections and reconstruction of sidewalk ramps, IDOT said.

In an effort to minimize the impact of traffic, some of the work in Morris will be performed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Night work will consist of milling, detector loop installation and resurfacing. Sidewalk work will take place during normal daytime hours.
