Identity of man in fatal accident released

Victim's vehicle found under I-55 near Mugz's Hideout

CHANNAHON — The Will County Coroner's Office released the name of a man who died in a fatal car crash Sunday in Channahon.

Coroner Pat O'Neil said the man was James R. Vanderweide, 23, of Bourbonnais, Ill. Vanderweide was reportedly living in Diamond temporarily.

Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold said the man was traveling southbound on Interstate 55 sometime between 2 and 6 a.m. Sunday when his vehicle apparently struck a guardrail between the north and southbound lanes near the bridge that crosses the Illinois River.
