Assell's a hassle

YORKVILLE — Back on April 13, Yorkville junior southpaw Brett Assell threw a one-hitter against Morris in a six-ining win by the Foxes.

After that game it would take the Northern Illinois Big 12 East teams 22 more innings before they could score against him. Including the Yorkville Class 3A Regional opener and a 7-1 win against the Redskins, Assell has now allowed just one earned runs over 35 innings of work against NIB12 East foes.

"He's got an 8-2 record now and in the conference his ERA was 0.25," Yorkville coach Scott Luken said. "It took until the 28th inning for him to get scored on in the conference. He's really stepped up for being a junior and he's done everything we've asked of him and more."
