(MCT) — Triple-A Charlotte outfielder Jordan Danks is headed to Chicago to join the White Sox in time for Thursday night's game against Toronto, a source confirmed.
Danks, the younger brother of Sox left-hander John Danks, batted .302 with 15 doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBIs for Charlotte. The younger Danks hit a three-run home run Wednesday night at Toledo.
Danks, 25, took the roster spot of outfielder Kosuke Fukudome, who left Sunday's game because of a ribcage injury. Danks will wear jersey number 20.
Danks is regarded as the best defensive outfielder in the Sox's farm system. He was a seventh round pick of the Sox out of the University of Texas in 2008.
Fukudome was batting .171 with no home runs and four RBIs in 24 games. He hasn't been able to perform baseball work since leaving Sunday's game against Seattle, and the torque in his swing could make his stint on the DL longer than the minimum 15 days.
The team announced the transactions at 1 p.m.
It will mark Danks' first time on the Sox's 25-man (and 40-man) roster.
