One hospitalized, one ticketed after crashes

String of crashes occurred just before noon Wednesday

A multi-vehicle crash on Illinois 47 in Morris sent one driver to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

According to Morris Police Department Officer Steve Huetteman, the string of crashes started before noon in the northbound lanes of Illinois 47, on the north side of the overpass, in the 1200 block of Illinois 47. He said the driver of an unidentified vehicle applied its brakes and stopped to make a turn.

A blue Chevy Impala driven by Johnnie Copley, 18, of Morris, was following and was unable to come to a stop in time, and crashed into the vehicle's rear, while two vehicles following Copley, a black Kia Sorrento and a red Chevy Silverado, also were involved in rear-end collisions behind Copley. The three pulled into Morris Family Dental and off the roadway as firefighters swept debris from the street.
