Characters come out for Warrior Dash in Channahon

CHANNAHON — While at the heart of the Warrior Dash — a 5k race/obstacle course held nationally — is the actual race itself, what certainly does not get lost in the shuffle from year to year is that it's also a festival. Perhaps a quartet from southern Illinois exemplifies that festive spirit more than the event itself.

The four men clearly stood out in the crowd since they were dressed up in costume like professional wrestlers. Ty Parker from Collinsville was the Undertaker, Andy Lake of Mascoutah was Sargent Slaugher, David Lane of Fairview Heights was Hulk Hogan and Steve Mank of Belleville Macho Man was Randy Savage.

Considering that the race was run during one of the hottest stretches ever in the area — June temperatures were consistently in the 90s — it was at the top of the priority list of Red Frog Events to ensure the safety of the WWF look-alikes.

What is your stance on a proposed 1 percent sales tax to fund local school building projects?

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
