Hot, but high temperature falls short of hottest day of year

(MCT) — Temperatures today at O'Hare International Airport hit 94 degrees briefly, three degrees shy of tying the warmest day of the year so far. Tuesday and Wednesday could be hotter than today, but it's unlikely we'll reach record highs.

The Chicago Weather Center predicted a high of 97, which would have matched the hottest day we've had this year, 97 degrees on May 27, and predicts 97 again for Tuesday and Wednesday. But the record high Tuesday is 102 degrees, set in 1953, and the record high Wednesday is 104 degrees, set in 1988.
