Woman cited after vehicle crashes into Aux Sable Creek

A Morris woman was cited after she reportedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into Aux Sable Creek June 12, according to Grundy County Sheriff’s Department records released Tuesday.

According to the crash report, at about 9 p.m., Shaina R. Pershey, 22, of 603 Douglas St., was traveling westbound on E. Minooka Road, about a half of a mile west of Brisbin Road in Saratoga Township, when a dog or a coyote ran into the road in front of her 2000 Chevy Silverado.

She reportedly swerved to avoid hitting the animal and attempted to apply her brakes, but they failed. Her vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane, entering the south ditch and continued into a cornfield before it went airborne and struck an embankment of Aux Sable Creek before it bounced backwards into the middle of the creek, where it came to a rest.

According to the report, Pershey left the scene of the accident without immediately reporting it. She was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage and leaving the scene of an accident.

Pershey reported minor injuries.
