Some old, some new makes Summerfest a success

Minooka event pleases children, teens and adults

MINOOKA — Minooka’s annual Summerfest kicked off the summer festival season Friday night and all day Saturday with some new acts, new music and a lot of the traditional favorites.

The event started on Friday night with the Minooka Police Department’s car show at Ace Hardware to benefit Illinois Special Olympics. The younger set enjoyed the teen music fest downtown, with performances by local teen artists. This is the first year the Minooka Community High School Band Boosters hosted the popular event.

On Saturday, after the 5k run and kiddie parade, Mondamin Street in downtown Minooka was lined with the usual tables and tents of organizations selling local favorites like homemade Kringlas, pastries, cotton candy and lemon shake-ups to earn money for their organizations.
