Cubs designate Wells for assignment
(MCT) — The Chicago Cubs designated pitcher Randy Wells for assignment Wednesday and recalled reliever Rafael Dolis from Triple-A Iowa.
Wells (1-2, 5.34 ERA) lasted only three innings in Tuesday's 5-3 Cubs' victory over the New York Mets, allowing three runs on six hits and drawing the ire of manager Dale Sveum by walking four, including opposing pitcher Dillon Gee.
"The pitch count gets up so high, he can't even get up to five innings," Sveum said before Wednesday's game. "He's got to go down and get better than that."
