BULLETINS: Healing Service planned Sunday in Plainfield

PLAINFIELD — On Sunday, July 1, at 1:30 p.m., immediately following the 12:15 p.m. Mass, St. Mary Immaculate‘s Church will host a Healing Prayer Service. After a short scripture reading and prayer, each individual will be offered the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.

A Healing Service will be held on the first Sunday of every month at 1:30 p.m.

St. Mary Immaculate Parish is at 15629 South Illinois 59, Plainfield.

Activists to encourage public to face truth about abortion

JOLIET — The eager face of a beautiful baby is a reminder of the joy that every new life brings.

Local Christians believe every child deserves the chance to be born and to be loved. Yet over 1.2 million unborn babies are aborted each year in our country.

On Friday, July 6, they will be holding signs at three sites in the Joliet area to increase awareness of the tragedy of abortion. Sites include:

• 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Joliet, at Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue.

• 11:30 a.m. to  1 p.m. in Shorewood, at Illinois 59 and Black Road.

• 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Plainfield, at Illinois 59 and Caton Farm Road. 

The Knights of Columbus, Good Shepherd Council # 5573 and Reverence for Life will have a luncheon for sign holders from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Parish, in the Faith Sharing Room at 15629 S. Illinois 59, Plainfield.

Our Savior’s Lutheran set pork chop dinner July 7

SENECA — Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 300 E. Union St., Seneca, is sponsoring a pork chop dinner on Saturday, July 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Cost for one pork chop is $8; two pork chops, $9; and a hot dog dinner, $4.

Homemade ice cream is centerpiece of social

VERONA — The 31st annual homemade ice cream social of the Verona United Methodist Church will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at the church.

The menu is barbecue, hot dogs, chips, desserts, drinks, and delicious homemade ice cream. Carryouts are available.

Joliet Jews announce services and events

JOLIET — Shabbat Services for the Joliet Jewish congregation will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evenings, while Sat-urday services are at 9 a.m.      

The Joliet Jewish Congre-gation is located at 250 North Midland Ave., Joliet, and can be reached by phone at (815) 741-4600, which is the number to call to RSVP for events.

In addition to its weekly worship services, the congregation hosts a Lunch and Learn every Thursday, unless otherwise stated.

This wonderful way to study the Hebrew Bible takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per week. and those attending should  RSVP.

A Dairy Potluck and Family Services are also held monthly, usually the third Friday of each month. The potluck is at 6 p.m., followed by family services at 7 p.m. Please call for more information.

Minooka UMC sets rummage sale for first weekend in July

MINOOKA — Minooka United Methodist Church is the place for a huge rummage sale on July 6 and 7.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 6, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 7, the church will offer clothing, toys and games, home decor, costume jewelry, lawn & garden items, seasonal decorations, books, collectibles, tools, estate items, junque and treasures of all kinds!

The church is located at the corner of Massasoit and Church Streets in Minooka.

Meal for seniors served second Wednesday monthly

A nutritious meal will be provided by the Senior Service Center of Will County and Channahon Township for residents 60 years or older.

The luncheon will be served at 11:30 on the second Wednesday of each month, July 10 next month, at Channahon United Methodist Church, 24751 W.Eames St. The minimum suggested donation is $3.

Reservations should be made by calling the township office at (815) 467-2569 by Thursday before the luncheon date.
