Blackhawks sign Brookbank
(MCT) — A significant signing or trade still may be in the Blackhawks' near future, but after the dust settled on day one of NHL free agency, the only piece general manager Stan Bowman had acquired was for depth along the blue line.
The Hawks agreed to terms Sunday with 31-year-old Sheldon Brookbank on a two-year contract reportedly worth $2.5 million. Brookbank, a physical player who can help on the penalty kill, is projected as a fifth or sixth defenseman.
With some of the league's top free agents still unsigned — including defenseman Ryan Suter and forward Zach Parise — there will be many more dominoes to fall and it remains to be seen if the Hawks will be major players.
