Irish basketball team keeps focus on improving
BRAIDWOOD — A deep run for the Seneca basketball team means little in the mind of head coach Russell Witte, but the progress made along the way is pleasing as the Fighting Irish work their way towards regaining the lofty expectations that once accompanied the storied program.
The Braidwood Shootout, or the summer of 2012, won’t have a place next to the first- or third-place trophies IHSA state in the case at Seneca. But the team is on the path to giving those trophies some company.
“Wins and losses don’t matter a single bit, it’s summer,” Witte said. “They don’t hand out state trophies for this stuff. I think it gets overblown. The idea is to come out and get better. Since we have the same team that we had last year we just want to gel. I know where we’re at and what we’re capable of and I’m very pleased.”
