Celebrating 'Liberty'

Holiday 5K begins 'Run 4 Morris' circuit

Steamy weather did not deter a few hundred locals from taking part Tuesday night in an annual run through downtown Morris.

Just before 7 p.m., more than 300 runners gathered at the starting line at Liberty and Jefferson streets to take part in the third annual Liberty 5K Run/Walk.

The 5K was organized by the Morris Downtown Development Partnership and the Grundy County Farm Bureau Foundation to support area veterans groups. Tasha Bunting, farm bureau manager, said about 230 participants signed up in advance for the event, which attracted some last-minute participants, too. She was pleased with the number of runners taking part.
