Barbara Anfinsen Eichler
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. — Dr. Barbara Eichler, 69, an adventurous loving wife and mother, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, after her courageous battle with cancer.
Barb was born Aug. 20, 1942, in Aurora, Ill., and had lived in Glen Ellyn, Ill., for the past 34 years. She received her B.A. in English (1964) at St. Olaf College, M.S. in Linguistics at Illinois Institute of Technology (1970), and Ed.D in Adult Education at National-Louis University (2001).
Dr. Eichler co-authored "Technology and Society: Issues for the 21st Century and Beyond," a textbook used in universities throughout the U.S., as well as numerous publications and professional presentations. Barb was a recognized Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2002); director of the Academic Support Center, which she founded; and proud chair of the D'Arts Council, which she also founded. Barb retired after 26 years as senior professor at DeVry University.
She enjoyed travelling, painting, harp playing, and was an avid gardener who loved to be outdoors. She was a member of the P.E.O.
Barbara married Thomas Eichler in 1965. She is survived by her husband; son, Tad; and brother, Roger (Carol). She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anita (Nelson) Anfinsen; and her brother, Laurel Anfinsen (Nanci).
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, and a memorial service conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn, lll., 60137. Interment will be in the West Lisbon Cemetery in Newark, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Loyola Cancer Center and Loyola Hospice.
