Walgreen to add 144 drugstores in $438 million deal for private chain
(MCT) — Walgreen Co.continued its spending spree Thursday, announcing that it will pay $438 million to buy 144 drugstores mostly in mid-Southern states operating under the brand names USA Drug, Super D Drug and other banners.
The Deerfield pharmacy chain, fresh off a $6.7 billion megadeal to expand into Europe, said the acquisition will bolster its position in the mid-South and extend its reach into smaller communities where it does not have a presence.
