Inheritance change taxes Grundy County budget

County treasurer no longer collecting estate taxes, receiving percentage

Grundy County officials will be working to try to recover a $20,000 loss the county will incur due to Gov. Pat Quinn's budget plan.

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford's office sent the Grundy County Treasurer's office a memo last week stating that, as of July 1, local county treasurers are to no longer collect estate tax payments and submit them to the state as has been past practice.

Now the estate taxes, or inheritance taxes, will be paid directly to the state treasurer's office by the estate.

I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
