Mag Mile won't morph into Times Square, alderman says
(MCT) — The author of the proposal to allow Michigan Avenue malls to erect flashing and changing-image signs is trying to quell concerns that the Magnificent Mile would morph into a version of New York's Times Square.
Alderman Brendan Reilly, 42nd, told the Tribune on Tuesday that the proposal would limit the signage to three malls on North Michigan Avenue — Water Tower Place, 900 North Michigan Shops and Chicago Place Mall, which is largely vacant — and that pedestrians won't be able to tell the difference between current signage and new electronic signs.
