REM selected to probe feasibility of village eliminating police force

Coal City would contract with GCSD instead

COAL CITY — Village leaders Monday night approved an agreement that will start a study into the feasibility of contracting with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services.

The village board unanimously approved allowing the mayor to enter into an agreement with Lansing, Ill.-based consulting company REM Management Services Inc. to conduct a feasibility study of the switch from a local police force. The agreement included a fee of $24,950 for REM to conduct the study.
