Additional heat deaths bring total to 22 in Cook County
(MCT) — The Cook County medical examiner’s office has determined today that three people have died of heat-related causes, increasing the number to 22 people who have died since the beginning of last week’s heat wave.
Dorothy J. Short, 68, of the 8800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. at the Cook County medical examiner's office, officials said. A neighbor entered the home to check on the resident and found her dead, police said. Officers were called to the scene at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
