City objects to GM's dealership mandate

Automaker requiring facade not permissible in zoning district

Morris' Development Review Committee voted to have the city send a letter to General Motors Corporate objecting to its mandates for its local dealerships to change their facades.

Chuck Greenway of Greenway Automotive in Morris came before the DRC Thursday for a preliminary introduction to the changes corporate GM is requiring of its dealerships. Talty Chevrolet Buick Cadillac, which falls under GM, also made the city aware of this at previous meeting.

GM is requiring a facelift as part of a new image program, Greenway said. The new look requires a new front and the facade GM wants uses materials not approved by the city's building code.
