Illinois: Where scholarships reflected real life
When it comes to grant money to attend school or just about anything else, it truly is about who you know
Once again, I find myself on the losing end of prevailing political discourse. Now that Gov. Pat Quinn has signed the bill ending legislative scholarships, I confess: I attended college on such a scholarship.
That’s not why I liked the program, though. I actually dropped out of school and gave up my scholarship. It paid all my tuition and fees, but that was only about 10 percent of the costs of going to college 25 years ago. Costs are just one reason I dropped out – that’s a story for another day.
