Board reinforces opposition to proposed Illiana route
Area residents encouraged to attend July 31 public hearing
CHANNAHON — The village board this week approved a resolution reiterating sentiments expressed in a letter it sent to the Illinois Department of Transportation last month regarding the state constructing the proposed Illiana Expressway beginning in Channahon.
One of the routes IDOT is considering for the Illiana begins at Bluff Road and Interstate 55 in Channahon before it heads east to Indiana.
Channahon’s village president and its board oppose the route, which is called A3S2, preferring a more-southern beginning. Information is that 30 to 40 Channahon homes would be bought out by the state for the route, and Bluff Road access would be closed to I-55.
