Dist. 54 principals will take on lunch duties

Reduction in teacher monitors to save cash on stipends

The Morris Elementary District 54 Board Monday approved lunchroom monitoring stipends for six Shabbona Middle School teachers in the 2012-13 school year.

In the 2011-12 school year, there were three teacher monitors per grade level during lunch and recess times at Shabbona, making a total of nine receiving stipends. This school year, due to budget cuts, one teacher per grade level will be replaced by a building principal.

"When we look at budget cuts, we're looking at budget cuts as far away from the classroom as possible," Superintendent Teri Shaw said.
