Morris police tracking down fugitives via Facebook

Social media site has helped Morris officers arrest eight in recent months

A Morris Police Department experiment to gain information through Facebook about citizens wanted for outstanding warrants has led to the arrest of eight people in recent months.

Since May, the department has posted more than 15 warrant posters with mug shots of people with outstanding warrants, including information about their ages, physical characteristics and their offenses.

Det. Alicia Steffes said the idea for the postings came through past success for calls for information. She pointed to a bank robbery that happened shortly after the Facebook page was created two years ago.
