School supplies for one child average about $65, according to Carolyn Koranda, president of the Chanooka Wish Foundation, not including new shoes or clothes.

As a mother of four, Koranda knows how expensive it can be to fund a new school year.

"I have a second- and a third-grader," she said. "That's really where I learned the expense."
