Lightning blamed for causing barn fire
Chief: Estimated damage valued at about $30,000
Morris fire officials said lightning was to blame for an early-morning barn fire Thursday in Morris.
Chief Tracey Steffes of Morris Fire and Ambulance District said firefighters were dispatched to a barn fire at about 4:50 a.m. at 8305 N. Pioneer Road. He said the cause was apparent to the homeowner.
"It was definitely a lightning strike," he said. "He heard a loud clap of thunder and knew it was lightning."
