Former federal judges to help steer search for U.S. attorney's successor
(MCT) — Two former federal judges have been tabbed to head a panel to find a successor to Chicago's former U.S. attorney, Patrick Fitzgerald, who stepped down last month after a record nearly 11-year run in the powerful office.
Illinois' two U.S. senators — Democrat Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk, a Republican — said Thursday that David Coar and Mark Filip will co-chair the six-member committee that will screen applicants and recommend finalists to them. It is unlikely that the Senate will confirm a nominee until after the November election.
