Her summer is no vacation
MINOOKA — Minooka volleyball player Kasey Schumacher has been one of the busiest people in the area of late. The soon-to-be senior committed to a full-ride scholarship to continue her volleyball career at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and her AAU team finished eighth out of 300 teams at Nationals in Ohio two weeks ago.
Schumacher committed to SIUE earlier in the month, making her the third straight Indian to receive a full-ride scholarship in volleyball, following in the footsteps of Daryian Hopper (North Carolina State) and Stacey Perinar (Eastern Michigan.)
For Schumacher, playing with Perinar had a great effect on her game, as she was able to mostly only watch Hopper during her sophomore year. Watching both of those players really helped her learn what it was like playing at the varsity level.
