There's plenty of local racing history worth sharing

Those that are racing fans, which includes this sports nut, are probably aware that racing at the Grundy County Speedway runs through Sept. 2.

The Friday night races have some important dates coming up. Coming up this Friday night is the Wayne Carter Classic 125 ASA Midwest Tour Stars and Cars. Scheduled for July 27 is the Mid-American stock car series' Bob Tattersall weekend special. On Aug. 10, the Grundy Speedway will feature the third annual Frank Welch 94 Memorial Monza Spectacular.

I've been looking back at some of my newspaper clippings from the Morris Daily Herald when racing was really big at the old Mazon Speed Bowl. On Sunday, May 8, 1955, the season was all set to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
