Central Illinois farms feeling impact of drought

DOWNS (MCT) — Severe drought conditions that have plagued Central Illinois and much of the nation are evident at Dennis Wentworth’s McLean County farm.

Corn stalks have yellow leaves and stand about 2 feet shorter than average. Any ears that managed to grow despite a more than 10-inch rainfall deficit in McLean County are up to 50 percent smaller than average. Wentworth inspected six corn plants last week and found only one ear.
