CHICAGO (MCT) — Kahmani Mims-Jefferson lies on his back in a hospital crib, motionless except for the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest as a ventilator pumps air into his lungs.
The 11-month-old boy with a white teddy bear tucked under his arm became a victim of Chicago’s gun violence before he was born, though he was never struck by a bullet.
