Coal City's finances mostly positive despite 'tough times'
COAL CITY — The Coal City village board heard the results of its fiscal year 2012 annual audit from Brian Zabel of accounting firm Brian Zabel and Associates.
Zabel shared highlights of the audit with the board, following up on a previous meeting with the village's finance committee. He gave a clean opinion of the board's finances, noting he found no misappropriation of funds or any on-going concerns — any issues that would threaten the village's financial sustainability.
He noted the board closed out the fiscal year with a little over $135,000 in increased net assets from the prior year, which he said was positive.
