The Morris Fire Department was called to the scene of a small fire on an outside stairwell and porch area of an apartment complex at 1029 Wauponsee Ave. Wednesday afternoon. Morris Fire also investigated one of the apartments near the stairwell where some smoke had been reported to see if the fire had extended into the apartment.

According to Morris Fire Chief Tracey Steffes, someone had just been out to the complex to make repairs to the stairwell right before the fire was called in. Steffes said it has not yet been confirmed if the fire is related to any of the repair work.
