Sherman Hemsley, star of TV’s ‘The Jeffersons,’ dies at 74
(MCT) — Sherman Hemsley, who was rooted in the minds of millions of television viewers as Archie Bunker’s bombastic black neighbor, George Jefferson, in “All in the Family” and later as the star of his own long-running sitcom, “The Jeffersons,” has died. He was 74.
The actor, who had a home in El Paso, Texas, was found dead Tuesday by the El Paso Sheriff’s Department, his agent, Todd Frank, told the Los Angeles Times. No cause of death was given.
