Cutler would benefit from strong season

CHICAGO (MCT) — It was hard for Jay Cutler not to notice how business unfolded for Drew Brees.

While the Saints were scarred by a messy bounty scandal, Brees emerged from the dust somewhat unscathed and with reason to smile. He became the richest player in NFL history after signing a five-year, $100 million deal that included a record $60 million guaranteed.

“A lot of it goes with how you play during the season, and Drew Brees has played at the top of the league for a long time, so he’s deserving,” Cutler said. “As the contract numbers get bigger and bigger, obviously it’s better for up-and-coming players and guys coming into the league.”
