BALTIMORE (MCT) — Violet Ripken, the 74-year-old mother of Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr., was abducted at gunpoint from her Maryland home and returned there unharmed, according to authorities, who were searching for a motive in the bizarre kidnapping.
Ripken was at her home on a quiet Aberdeen side street between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday when a man wielding a gun forced into her vehicle and drove her “throughout Central Maryland,” according to Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Trabert.
