Learn to be prepared in an emergency

Family Emergency Preparedness Expo set for Saturday

The Grundy County Association for Home and Community Education is doing its part to help local people prepare themselves for an emergency.

A Family Emergency Preparedness Expo is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the Grundy County Fairgrounds, during the Grundy County 4-H Fair. The free event will, at noon, feature a presentation by Deb Burnshausen of the Chasing 4 Life Whirlwind Foundation.

"We attended a seminar in Effingham at the beginning of the year and one of the lessons was on being prepared and it made us all think," said Yvonne Canik, president of the Grundy County Association for Home and Community Education.

What is your stance on a proposed 1 percent sales tax to fund local school building projects?

I'm in favor of anything that will help improve school finances
I will support it if it helps to lower my property taxes
I oppose it because I don't believe it will impact property taxes and I will just pay twice
I'm against any additional taxes
I have not heard enough yet to form an opinion
