Morris Fire District issues 'no open burning' notice
Lack of moisture, high daily temps lead to dangerous fire conditions
The Morris Fire Protection & Ambulance District has instituted a no open burning notice, effective immediately, according to Fire Chief Tracey Steffes.
The no open burn notice covers the entire geographical area of the fire protection district. The lack of moisture and the daily temperatures have created an extremely dangerous fire condition.
The dry condition of the vegetation increases the chance of an open fire or an improperly disposed smoking item can create a fast burning fire, which can become uncontrollable in a short time.
