Tribune newsroom staffers petition editor over use of Journatic

(MCT) — A petition signed by 90 members of the Chicago Tribune newsroom was presented Wednesday to Gerould Kern, senior vice president and editor of the Tribune, expressing concerns over the prospects of a continued editorial relationship with hyperlocal content provider Journatic.

The petition asked for greater transparency about Tribune Co.'s ownership stake in Journatic and questioned how the provider could be used going forward to supply editorial content to TribLocal after a string of ethical violations, including fabrications and false bylines. Those violations led to the Tribune indefinitely suspending Journatic earlier this month.
