Morris schools plan Aug. 7 registrations

Districts 54, 60C will hold sessions in advance of first days of school, coming on Aug. 21

Morris Elementary School District 54 and Saratoga Community Consolidated School District 60C in Morris have scheduled registration sessions for the 2012-13 school year for next Tuesday, Aug. 7.

District 54

Morris Elementary School District 54 registration for kindergarten through eighth grade will be Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at White Oak Elementary.

All new students to District 54 should enroll at registration or at their school after registration day. Parents who have not pre-registered kindergarten students should call (815) 942-0047. White Oak class rosters will be posted Aug. 7 at the school.

White Oak Elementary orientation for kindergarten will be Aug. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at White Oak Gym.

Back to school nights will be held at White Oak Gym. On Aug. 20, first grade is at 5:30 p.m.; second grade at 6:30 p.m.; and third grade at 4:30 p.m. On Aug. 21, fourth grade is at 5:30 p.m. and fifth grade is at 6:30 p.m.

Shabbona Middle School open house for sixth through eighth grades is Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at Shabbona.
Fees for all grades should be paid at registration. Checks are to be written to District 54. Book rental fees are $65 for White Oak pre-kindergarten, $127.50 for kindergarten (includes $52.50 milk fee and $5 art fee), $75 for grades 1 to 5 (includes ($5 art fee) and $105 for grades 6 to 8. Day planners at both White Oak and Shabbona are $10.

Lunch and milk prices are $2.55 for student lunch, 30 cents for extra milk, 40 cents for reduced lunch and $2.70 for adult lunch.

Student insurance costs, for kindergarten through eighth grade, are $15 for school time, $40 for 24-hour, $43 for 24-hour plus dental and $38 with in hospital sickness option. Checks should be made payable to KidGuard.

School attendance centers are White Oak Elementary for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade and Shabbona Middle School for sixth through eighth grades.

District 54 will begin school on Aug. 21. Hours that day are 8:17 to 11:30 a.m. for kindergarten through fifth grades and 8:12 to 11:40 a.m. for sixth through eighth grades. Regular hours are 8:17 a.m. to 3:02 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade and 8:12 a.m. to 3:12 p.m. for sixth through eighth grade.

Bus transportation is provided for students living outside a 1.5-mile radius of the school they are attending or in an approved hazardous area within 1.5 miles. Illinois Central School Bus provides pay-to-ride services for families that live within the 1.5-mile area and wish to receive transportation services for their children. District 60C (Saratoga)

Saratoga Community Consolidated School District 60C registration will be held Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room located in the student services building. Attendees should enter the building through door 18. All students must be registered whether or not they have attended Saratoga School previously.

Parents with school-age children living in Saratoga School District are encouraged to contact Saratoga School student services office at (815) 942-5970. Kindergarten students must be 5 years of age prior to Sept. 1, 2012.

Parents that filled out registration papers in May and returned them to school along with school fees and lunch account money do not need to attend. Those who were unable to take advantage of the early registration, or pay school fees, may do so at this time. Anyone that ordered school supplies through “School Tool Box” may pick them up in the multi-purpose room during registration hours.

Registration fees for the 2012-2013 school year are $75 for kindergarten through fifth grade and $100 for sixth, seventh and eighth grade. All fees and lunch account deposits will be collected at registration.

Students entering school for the first time, all sixth-grade students and any student transferring from a school outside of Illinois are required to have completed a physical examination including a complete record of their immunizations.

A new requirement states is that all students entering sixth through eighth grades must have the Tdap booster (whooping cough). Written proof from a doctor must be turned in to the school nurse by Oct. 15, 2012 or the student will not be allowed to attend school. Students in kindergarten and second and sixth grades are required to have a dental examination prior to the end of the school year.

The first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 8:15 until 11:30 a.m. Kindergarten students will attend with their parents at their designated times. Wednesday, Aug. 22 will be a full day of school from 8:15 a.m. until 3:05 p.m. and lunch will be served.

All kindergarten students will follow an every-other-day schedule for the first eight days of student attendance with a schedule to be mailed after registration. All kindergarten students will be in attendance everyday beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4.
