Coalers power past two rivals in annual I-8 lifting event

For the 21st year in a row, the Interstate Eight Conference Powerlifting Challenge was held, capping a summer of preparation for the Coal City Coalers.

Getting an aggregate total of 1,000 pounds from eight different lifters, Coal City came away with 8,970 total pounds and first place at this year's event.

"We look at it as a nice competition for the kids," Coal City coach Lenny Onsen said. "It's to see where they are at and for them to have fun, but it's more fun than it is competition."
